COMM101 Appointment Requirements

All COMM101 students are required to visit the Communication Center at least once during the semester to help you in the presentation process. While you can visit the Comm Center as often as you need, there are three types of appointments that are eligible to meet this requirement. When you are scheduling your appointment, you will need to specify that you are attending for COMM101 and what you’d like to focus on during your appointment.

Option 1: Brainstorm Appointment

  • In this appointment you and your consultant will brainstorm topic ideas, possible main point organization, and preliminary research.
  • You should come to this appointment with knowledge of the instructions and requirements, and at least one topic idea.

Option 2: Preparation Appointment

  • In this appointment you and your consultant will go over the progress you have made on your outline and you will receive feedback on your content, organization, and sources.
  • You should come to this appointment with a draft of your outline and knowledge of the instructions and requirements.

Option 3: Practice Appointment

  • In this appointment you will practice your presentation with your consultant and receive feedback on your delivery including your nonverbal behavior, speech anxiety, and the overall cohesion of the presentation.
  • You should come to this appointment with speech notes or a key-word outline and knowledge of the requirements. If the presentation requires a PowerPoint, please bring a copy.

In order to receive credit for your appointment, please note the following:

*After you attend your appointment, your consultant will email you a link to an exit survey. You must complete the survey within 24 hours of your appointment and following the instructions on the final page, you must take a screenshot of the confirmation page and submit it to the folder in Blackboard.

**If you arrive at your appointment more than 10 minutes late, unprepared or missing materials, or are otherwise uncooperative during your meeting, your appointment will not be eligible to receive credit.

***All COMM101 Comm Center visits must take place BEFORE the assignment due date.
